gavelU.S. District Judge Donald C. Nugent is taking a jury’s verdict under consideration before issuing his final decision in a lawsuit filed by the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection last year against Cleveland, Ohio-based law firm Weltman, Weinberg & Reis Co., LPA.

The bureau filed a lawsuit in Ohio federal district court accusing Weltman, Weinberg & Reis of using overly aggressive and illegal practices to intimidate consumers into paying debts when they would have not otherwise. The bureau’s focus in the case rests with the pre-suit collection activity the law firm performed on behalf of original creditors as well as debt buyers who purchased defaulted consumer debts.
